「Outcomes are about what you get. Processes are about what you do. Identity is about what you believe.」

「1. Decide the type of person you want to be. 2. Prove it to yourself with small wins.」

核心比喻:「Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.」——而且不需要全勝:「You don’t need a unanimous vote… you just need a majority.」

不知道想成為誰時,從想要的結果往回推:「Who is the type of person that could get the outcome I want?」

I’m trying to quit.」(仍然把自己當吸菸者);另一個說「No thanks. I’m not a smoker.」(身分已經轉換)。
  • Brian Clark

  • 內在動機的極致:「The ultimate form of intrinsic motivation is when a habit becomes part of your identity.」
  • 不一致的行為不會持久:「Behavior that is incongruent with the self will not last.」
  • 雙向回饋:「Your habits shape your identity, and your identity shapes your habits.」

  • 身分是雙面刃:負面的身分也會卡住人——「I’m not a morning person」「I’m horrible at math」。原書說:「The biggest barrier to positive change… is identity conflict.」
解法是 Paul Graham 的「keep your identity small」,並把身分重新定義成可攜帶的特質——例如從「I’m an athlete」改成「I’m the type of person who is mentally tough and loves a physical challenge」。
